I love God, and I love my country. I don’t know what is going to happen in this next election, or if Christians will even stand up and be counted. “Self-righteousness is wretchedness turned inside out. A conservative is someone who stands athwart history, yelling, stop, at a time when no one is inclined to do so, or have much patience, with those who urge it.” William F. Buckley, Jr.
Someone wrote, “The gospel itself is unattractive and alarming to the world. It exposes sin, and condemns pride, convicts the unbelieving heart, and shows our own righteousness to be worthless and defiled. It affirms that the real problems in life are not caused because of anyone but ourselves. We cannot blame anyone else for our failure. If church history teaches us anything, it is that different times do not require different messages. The message doesn’t need changing – WE need to allow the message to change US!” author unknown.
We are a country in chaos, now. We have a Government that has turned us to Socialism to such an extent, that most cannot even recognize America in history nor the Constitution, never mind our Judeo-Christian heritage. We are in a pop culture society, of meism, and that drives God out. Anything goes. When trouble grows your character shows. Trouble that drives you to Jesus is a precious asset. Trouble will help you find out who your friends really are, both personally, our work, private lives, and those we thought we trusted at the voting booth. Trouble therefore, is an asset. It makes you delve into yourself to take stock. It drives us Christians into our secret prayer closet to seek the only one who can change the situation; sometimes us. It is so sad and actually astonishing that now of all the candidates running from both GOP and Democrats, that only 6 are not Socialists. They are, Cruz, Trump, Carson Paul, Walker, and Santorum. Everyone else on both sides, including Jeb Bush are Socialists (Progressives they like to say). Some more than others, like Bernie Sanders who could be called a Communist.
Why does that matter? Because, we are in a very similar state as we were 35 years ago, after the terrible progressive presidency of Jimmy Carter and the Iran Hostage crisis, and now again we are faced with another terrible presidency of Barack Obama and this Nuclear Iran deal; as they once more hold Christian hostages of US Citizenship. Whereby, once again, as history repeats itself, we are in the world facing many of the same challenges we had then, including a presumptive cold war with Putin in Russia. Donald Trump has made headlines in much the same way as Ronald Reagan did back in 1979-80 and as Trump has his brash personality and deficits, so did Reagan, with his age, and his reputation as an actor, but also extreme conservatism. Yet, on the day of his swearing in, the Iranian government released the hostages. And later it was Reagan who roared to Russia, “tear down this wall” in east Berlin. While now Trump is yelling, build this wall on our borders! Somehow, I see a parallel here. Now, I am not endorsing Trump, in fact lean to Cruz more than anyone, as a strong Constitutionalist, who interned for Chief Justice William Rehnquist. I’m just making a comparison from the past to the present, with something to pray about and meditate on.
Spiritual insight is not found by emptying our minds of questions. The God of the Bible asks HIS people to do their best thinking. According to Isaiah 1:18 God’s invitation was a spiritual renewal after this invitation “Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord.” The prophet Isaiah goes on to quote a God who appeals to the minds and thoughts of His people. Over and over God asks His people to do their best thinking, so as to trust HIM for answers that He alone understands. Only after appealing to the highest reason and best judgment of his hearers does the prophet go on to ask, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? God is never weary. He neither faints and His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might HE increases strength. Those who wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like an eagle, shall run and not be weary, walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
We need to know and have deep insight a to what is really going on in the world around us, our leaders, whether locally or in Washington. But, we need to have wisdom, and see deeper than phony rhetoric to win a campaign, but deep within the candidate themselves, so as not to be taken in again as we were with obama. This is spiritual warfare we are facing in America, reaching down to each and every one of us. It is also the most crucial time for us to repent. Personally and for our nation. Ground level spiritual warfare, is a ministry of deliverance or casting out demons from individuals, even if afar. We need to see beyond the shallowness of media filled emptiness, and see deep within as God stirs in us from HIS eyes. We need to speak out and be active against atrocities, such a my last post on Planned Parenthood, for it is an abomination to God Almighty…and those strongholds must come down! We need to neutralize territorial power and high ranking spirits of greed, lust, power, corruption, lies, the dumbing down of our history, control, racial suppression, and baiting, and not fall for any of this in a candidate and to bind Satan’s influence in the voting booth. We need to bind Satan and his evil spirits in all walks of life, and his demons from the progress hindering evangelism in America and the World. Pray! This is WARFARE, have no doubts.
Ask God to give us humility as we focus. To clarify certain issues, and give us truths. For humility is indeed a quality of one’s character…and much much more. If we don’t humble ourselves before Christ as we pray for our nation, and repent too, then God will not honor us. Humility IS discipline, not merely virtue. It has more to do with what we seek than what we become. If we take responsibility for what we seek, God will determine what we will be….and our nation. Humility is not the result of having low self-esteem. Ronald Reagan had deep humility and strength of character. He showed it repeatedly throughout his presidency, even after he got shot as well as with his friend Tip O’Neil, even though on opposite sides of the isle there was deep respect between them. THAT kind of friendship and idealism for America is what is missing. Humble people are too occupied with the well being of others to guard their own interests or notice their own self-importance.
“Whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be a slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for man.” Mark 10-43-45 What begins in the glories of heaven ends with the worst kind of death–the cruelest, most shameful mode of execution ever devised by mankind: crucifixion. Paul reminds us that Jesus chose this voluntary downgrading so that He might one day lift us up! With that in mind, our prayers must extend from our solitude and prayer closet, to our family, churches, local towns and cities to our nation. A CHRISTIAN and Judeo nation, for God is the same yesterday, today and always….And as He birthed Israel in Genesis 13, so did He birth America. It is up to us as Christians, to not let it be destroyed, and that can only come in prayer. God Bless you..God bless America. * Excerpts Chuck Swindall
